The public outcry over the menace of street urchins commonly called area boys has not deterred these social nuisances from continuing in their nefarious activities in any way whatsoever, however, it seems that the people are now prepared to put up a fight in order to safeguard their lives and property.

In recent times, truckers around the two major Port corridors seem to have decided that they will no longer be easy ride for these social misfits and their antics and so have been resisting these urchins and arresting some whenever they can. On the 16th of this month, a truck driver named Femi Amos while driving his truck along the Ijora 7up underpass was accosted by two weapon wielding young miscreants in a bid to carry out their usual extortionist behaviour, but Mr. Amos would have none of it.

The two criminals, Segun Olaitan and Idris Samad.

In the process, Mr. Amos who was trying to resist the extortion by two extortonists, Segun Olaitan, 21 years of age and Idris Samad, 25 years then dragged him down from the truck and gave him a thorough beating and in the process inflicting bodily harm on him.

The two miscreants were thereafter arrested by onlookers and were promptly handed over to the  police. The police has charged the two men to court under sections 412, 301, 173  and 168(D) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015 and will have their day in court. Mr Amos has, as a result of the beating sustained various cuts on his body which includes a deep cut on his forehead, just above the right eye and other parts of his body.
