MM COMMAND RAISES THE BAR, GENERATES 20% MORE REVENUE ABOVE TARGET OVER TWO MONTHS .

The Murtala Muhammed Airport Command of Nigeria Customs Service ably led by Comptroller Mohammed Sani Yusuf has achieved a milestone revenue collection with the generation of Twenty Eight Billion, Nine Hundred and Ninety Seven Million, Three Hundred and Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Forty Two Kobo (N28,997,303,642k) only for January and February 2024 thereby surpassing the command’s monthly revenue target. A press statement released by the Command’s public relations officer, Supretendent of Customs Ogabor, VC gives details about the Command’s performance over the period.

The statement noted that “Comptroller Mohammed Sanni Yusuf, Customs Area Controller of the command described the collection as a result of the synergy and compliance from both Officers and stake holders. He further urged Officers and Men of the command to sustain the tempo”.

“In the month of January 2024 the MM Airport Command generated a total revenue of Fourteen Billion, Seven Hundred and Fifty Four Million, Forty Four Thousand, One Hundred and Ninety Six Naira (N14,754,044,196k) only. This figure exceeds the Command’s monthly target which is Eleven billion, Nine hundred and eighty two Million, Six Hundred and Sixteen Thousand, One Hundred and Four naira and Sixteen kobo (N11,982,616,104.16k) only by 23.1%”.

“Similarly, for the month of February 2024, the MM Airport Command collected a total
revenue of Fourteen Billon, Two Hundred and Forty Three Million, Two Hundred and
Fifty Nine Thousand, Four Hundred and Forty Eight Naira (N14,243,259,448) only,
thereby surpassing the Command’s monthly average target of Eleven Billion, Nine
Hundred and Eighty Two Million, Six Hundred and Sixteen Thousand, One Hundred and Four Naira and Sixteen Kobo (N11,982,616,104.16k) only by 18%”.

“The expected target for the months of January and February 2024 is Twenty Three
Billion, Nine Hundred and Sixty Five Million, Two Hundred and Thirty Two
Thousand, Two Hundred and Eight Naira, Thirty Two Kobo (N23,965,232, 280.32k)
only, while the generated revenue for January and February 2024 is twenty eight billion, Nine Hundred and Ninety Seven Million, Three Hundred and Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Forty Four Naira (N28,997,303,644) only reflecting a geometric increase of Five Billion, Thirty Two Million, Seventy One Thousand, Four Hundred and Thirty Five Naira, Sixty Eight Kobo (N5,032,071,435.68k) only representing an increase of 20% of the expected target”.

In addition to the revenue generated, a lot of other anti-smuggling activities were also carried out that led to the interception of fifty (50) pieces of 9mm live ammunition which was discovered in a joint examination conducted by the Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) while two (2) suspects were arrested and detained pending further investigation. In the area of protecting wildlife and endangered species, One thousand one hundred and sixty four kilograms (1,164kg) of Sea Cucumbers and Fifty Eight kilograms (58 Kg) of Donkey Genitals were intercepted.

Given the recent revenue exploits of the Command the CAC charges Officers and Men to remain resolute in other to justify the confidence reposed in the Service by the Federal Government and also to meet the expectations of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR in the areas of maximum revenue collection, legitimate trade facilitation and suppression of smuggling.

Furthermore, he reiterated that his office is open for dialogue and suggestions on ways to improve Nigeria Customs Service delivery and achieve federal government’s
objectives. Comptroller Yusuf applauded Officers and Men of the Command and other Sister agencies for their cooperation while describing Customs relationship with them as excellent which is geared towards achieving the goals of the government.
