The prevailing socio-political and economic environment is affecting virtually everyone within the country and the attendant health issues that come with the situation have prompted certain players within the corporate space in the country to seek ways of reducing the effects of the said environment on the average person.

The Out-of-Home Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN), the sectorial pressure group that is responsible for fighting for the interest and welfare of legitimate practitioners in the field went into a collaborative programme with the Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN) and also the Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency (LASAA) to organise a health walk for the public as a part of the programme marking the 2024 Health Week.

The Health Walk which happened on Saturday, the 4th of May had a truck blaring both old and new school music as the participants moved from the premises of the Lagos Television, Alausa through Lateef Jakande way to Obafemi Awolowa way all in Ikeja, Lagos. The walk had the incumbent president of OAAN, Mr. Sola Akinsiku and the immediate past president of the Association, Chief Emmanuel Ajufo as well as Mr. Yinka Adebayo, the representative of the president of MIPAN with Mrs. Bolade Otukoya an assistant general manager at LASAA in attendance.

The walk continued from Allen roundabout through Allen road to Opebi junction into Toyin street to Ola Ayinde street past the Customs training College into Bank-Anthony way. The group of health walkers moved from the LASUTH roundabout into Oba Akinjobi Street and then into the terminal point inside the Police college, GRA Ikeja.

In an interview with the OAAN president, he said that the collaboration between OAAN and MIPAN as well as LASAA coming in to participate is a part of the collaboration among the various sectors to celebrate the global health week as it is said that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation. He admonished the government to do more to help in having healthy citizens and also advises the citizens to take their more serious. He added that the need for promoting bonding and creating better awareness on health matters are also factors for coming together to have this health walk.

Mrs. Bolade Otukoya of LASAA also spoke about the walk and said that the purpose of coming in to collaborate with the sector that they regulate is for better relationship and bonding as they are not regulating to strangulate, but to improve on professionalism within the sector.

The MIPAN president, Mr. Yinka Adebayo on his part said that this is the second year of the walk and that it has been a good time to socialise , bond and seek better ways of relating with each other. He appeals to other sectorial interests in advertising and general media to come in and participate in the future editions of the walk.

There were aerobics, health talks by a qualified doctor, tugs-of-war for both male and female participants and a lot of water from sponsors.
