The association held recruitment exercise last Saturday to confer the title of Eminent Peace Ambassador to six deserving Nigerians who have displayed certain levels of peaceful conducts in the promotion of the ethos for which the association is widely known. The president of the association, Mr. Per Stefson travelled to Nigeria for the award and some well known Nigerians like Eze Ndigbo Isolo, Igwe Jude Nnaemeka, Eze Ndigbo Ejigbo, Igwe Nicholas Njoku, Igwe Jude Arinze Nwabueze and many others were in attendance.
Ambassador (Dr.) Chinaza Jenny Ugboaja was one of the Ambassadors who made recommendations to the association for some Nigerians to be awarded the Eminent Peace Ambassador. She is a woman who has traveled to many countries in her quest to promote peace, a Christian minister with vast experiences and one who believes in the dictum that says “Properly mould a person and you have properly moulded a society”.
She spoke to us on the sidelines of the event, she said “I am the chief executive officer of the Heart of Gold Ministry and we have an orphanage home and also do a lot of philanthropic work and these are also gestures that promote the ideals of this association. I have travelled a lot, but came back to Nigeria to try from my base as a woman of Igbo extraction to urge my people to key into the policy of this association . It has not been so easy to get them to key into it as people are naturally sceptical about the activities of this association and what it stands for. We got our registration tidied up about twelve years ago and a lot of people in power have been keying into the works of the association. We have been preaching the language of peace and that Nigeria is one and that we should all embrace peace. We have had about fifty people awarded the Eminent Peace Ambassadors ever since”.
She continued “We are peace volunteers who are called to serve, but you fund your activities until such a time when the affiliate body, the UN may feel confident enough to grant you some needed support”.
Ambassador (Dr. ) Chinaza Jenny Ugboaja was also conferred the title of the ‘Ádá Ndigbó jí èjè mbá ùwá níné’. It was a surprise package for her as the title was unexpectedly given to her by the Igbo Community in Lagos, they also awarded Mr. Per Stefson, IAWPA president, the title of Ẹ̄zè ùdó gbúrúgbúrú at the event.
