Some bags of the seized cannabis indica.
Story by Dili Utomi.
The wave of redoubled efforts as occasioned by the motivational policies of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi continues to permeate the ranks of the Service. A lot of illegitimate trade has been stopped and prohibited items deemed harmful to the economic and social development of the country have also been seized and confiscated.
The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command has Comptroller Joy Eghosa Edeldouk as the head and she held a press conference Wednesday evening to declare and hand over some amount of seized Cannabis Indica to the head of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and to warn potential law breakers in the maritime sector to change for good.
She said “In line with the CGC’s policy trust of collaboration, consolidation and innovation, on Wednesday the 11th of September, our vigilant officers, working in conjunction with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a consignment of cannabis indica weighing 51.25kg valued at ₦256,250,000.00 million naira. This violates the provision of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, section 55, sub-section 1c and 1f”.
The negative impact of hard drugs on the social, economic and political lives of a people cannot be overemphasised, it is therefore fitting that the efforts put in by officers and men of the Service continue to yield fruit in order that the Nigerian people may be truly protected from the menace of hard drugs.
The official hand over of the seized items to the NDLEA official in the area.
Comptroller Edeldouk promises that the Service will make sure that the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on perpetrators of such heinous crime and that anyone caught attempting to smuggle contraband or banned substances into Nigeria will face the same fate.
She sends a strong message and clear warning to unscrupulous importers who may be contemplating testing the resolve of the Nigeria Customs Service.
The CAC thanks the CGC and his management team for their support and guidance.
