In a bid to keep the fire of support for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party burning and to spread the message of hope as represented by the candidature of Peter Gregory Obi and his running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Conveners for New Nigeria (CNN) an umbrella body of over 60 support groups for Peter Obi on Thursday visited the chairman of the Labour Party in Lagos State, Mr. Olukayode Salako.

The team was led by Ichie EPC Obimma who is the Southwest coordinator of the CNN. After a few hours of delay occasioned by the long meeting that the state executive members had for the most part of the day, the meeting with the support group eventually started and Chief Obimma introduced the group.

Chief Obimma also stated the reason for setting up the CNN as he asked for the chairman’s full support, he praised the good work that the chairman is doing as he encourages the chairman to continue to tow the same line of good work.

The chairman welcomed the group as he thanked them and other groups for all the supports that they have been giving the candidates of the party as well as the party itself. Mr. Salako said that virtually everyone in Lagos is tired of the dominance of one man in Lagos politics and indicated the desire of most Lagosians to introduce a new order to take over Lagos politics and administration. The chairman noted that the Labour Party is in a good position to achieve the target.

Mr. Salako also added that the Party is going to organise a one day retreat programme for all the support groups that are registered with them. He said that the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour as well as many other candidates are going to be at the occasion to project the mission goal with the support groups on how to run the campaigns and the State when the election is eventually won in 2023. The chairman noted that the meeting will take place next week by Wednesday as he urged all the support groups to make themselves available.

A question about the kick off of the media campaigns was posed at the chairman and he answered that the media campaigns will start as soon as possible. Mr. Salako advised the support groups to have their independent campaign groups (ICGs) as he noted that three factors are important while carrying out political campaigns, these he said are security, media and logistics. The chairman indicated that they are having some challenges, but hopes that they will all be surmounted soon and the march to win Lagos State for the Labour Party is realised.

Some of the support groups that are under the CNN and that participated in the meeting included Freight Forwarders for Obidatti, Peter Obi Support Group, National Conference of Nigerian Electorates, Peter Obi For President and a host of other groups geared towards helping Mr. Peter Obi to win the next presidential election in 2023.

A member of one of the Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed support groups, the Obi/Datti Youth Support Alliance (ODYSA), Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi donated 50 plastic chairs to the Lagos State Labour Party secretariat at the meeting.
