The Lagos Free Zone Command of the Nigeria Customs Service under the able administration of Comptroller Olanrewaju Abdulwahab Olumoh continues to perform remarkably at the Seaport and Free Zones under its jurisdiction as it steadily rank high in the West African sub-region.

Stakeholders within the maritime sector at the port attest to the expedited actions with which the officers and men of the Command operate in terms of cargo processing and clearance without delay.

A freight forwarder operating at the Command was overheard saying “The maximum period of cargo release at this Command is 24 hours and the approach of the Customs here is service oriented and business friendly”.

Recall that in an interview with the CAC last month, he had said that for the first eight months of the year, they “had hit a figure of Two Hundred and Thirty Four Billion Naira (₦234,000,000,000) which represented over a hundred percent increase in generated revenue over the whole of the 2023 calendar year”.

In a chat with Superintendent of Customs, LA Abdullahi-Lagos, the Command’s spokesman, he noted that the Customs Area Controller is a hands-on kind of person who is keen on trade facilitation and constantly engages with stakeholders in line with the CGC’s policy thrusts of innovation, collaboration and consolidation.

The spokesman further reiterated that dedicated use of technological tools, synergy with other government agencies coupled with up-to-date standard operating procedures have enabled the kind of performances that the Command is presently putting out. He added that “The Customs will continue to partner with our critical stakeholders towards seamless and quality service delivery”.

Speaking in the same vein, Comptroller Olumoh says that “The inspiring leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi and his management team has greatly impacted the Command.

The CAC added that factors that aid the Command’s performance include his open door policy, their readiness to promote trade and commerce, the full support of legitimate, compliant investors and maritime operators at the Command.

“I have always encouraged that any complaints should be brought to my attention as we are always prepared to remove any barrier so long as our operators too are compliant with established procedures ” he concluded.
