The Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics Of Nigeria (APFFLON) is an advocacy group that has over the past few number of years of formation made very credible impacts on the lives of members and the freight forwarding community in general.

The Association which is led by the tenacious, straight talking and energetic Otunba Frank Ogunojemite has continued to advocate for better policies and operational standards along the logistics business chain. The group has always been in the forefront of suggesting ways to improve the business environment and the welfare of freight forwarders.

In continuation of the group’s advocacy, the president of the association with some members of his executive committee visited the Customs Area Controller of the Ondo/Ekiti Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller M. O Bewaji on Tuesday, the 19th of November.

It was a working visit that sought to encourage the Command to continuously partner with stakeholders in all areas possible as freight forwarders are usually seen as the ones who generate the revenues and pay to the accounts that Customs declare from.

Otunba Ogunojemite said “We at APFFLON recognise the importance of revenue generation for the apparent need to raise funds at this critical time that the government needs every Kobo that it can get to execute it’s policies and programmes, but it is crucially important for trade to be facilitated in order that businesses may grow, new ones spring up in order to bring in more revenue for government”.

He also added that “We encourage members, indeed all freight forwarders as well as officials of the Nigerian Customs Service to engage in honest declaration in all activities as this will reduce the friction and other associated hick-ups that do come up while trying to undertake the goods clearing princesses”.

He declared that APFFLON is always ready to work with the Customs to help in meeting their mandates in line with the policies as espoused by the Comptroller-General of Customs and his management team.

On his part, Comptroller Bewaji appreciated the timely visit of the APFFLON team and promised to work with the association as well all freight forwarders who will make their job easier. He noted that in line with the protection of national economy aspect of their mandates that he will continue to ask for honest and transparent declaration of cargoes as this will always make for expedited service and a win-win situation for all.
