Mr. Emeka Godfrey Nwosu.

Story by Dili Utomi.

The newly sworn in chairman of the Tin Can Island chapter of the Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics in Nigeria (APFFLON) has promised to outperform his predecessor in relating cordially with the Customs and other government agencies while running the affairs of the Association. Alhaji Akeem Ayobiojo says that he wants to beat the record of his predecessor, Mr. Emeka Godfrey Nwosu in the areas of the relationship with the Customs, Shipping Companies, Bonded Terminals Operators and the various government agencies that they have to deal with while carrying out their functions.

Alhaji Akeem Ayobiojo right being congratulated aby the national president, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite after he and his executive members were sworn in.

Chairman Ayobiojo who was speaking to a few Journalists after his inauguration said that he fully understands the pains that freight forwarders go through when there is a delay of any kind, be it during strike actions or any other kind of obstruction along the logistics supply chain because of the attendant incurred demurrages and that he intends to help address the reasons for these delays and other challenges that may occur.

He specifically mentioned the delay in refund from the Shipping Companies after the return of empty containers which he and his executive members intend to speedily tackle. Alhaji Ayobiojo suggests that the Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service should improve their use of scanners as this is the best way of examining cargoes for clearance and noted that human weaknesses have not allowed the available scanners to work.

The chairman says that he intends to make his chapter of the Association a model chapter and one to emulate in terms of all the enunciated projects. He did not only add that he will try to work with the other pressure groups in the industry to help Freight Forwarders in solving the problems associated with the goods clearing activities, but also warned members to take to the dictates of the extant laws guiding the business of Freight Forwarding.

Meanwhile, the ertswhile chapter chairman of the Association, Mr. Emeka Godfrey Nwosu has spoken out after he was moved to the headquarters of APFFLON. Mr. Nwosu in an interview with us asked a rhetorical question which is “is Tin Can Island chapter of APFFLON due for reconstitution”. He said that the national secretariat of APFFLON decides what to do, noting that he was appointed as the chairman of the chapter to give it an identity and make inroads into the area and that what would have been right is for him to be given the chance to consolidate on the achievements made so far at the chapter.

Mr. Nwosu lamented that he was never called to be informed about his secondment to the head quarters and the reconstitution of the Tin Can chapter. He said that all the information that he got on the action was from the grapevine which amounts to shaving one’s head in his absence.

Mr. Nwosu says that he wants to sit back and re-evaluate the next step to take as he is not a cogg in the wheel of progress to APFFLON and neither is he the pathway to it’s decision making. He noted that the industry is a big place to play one’s role as associations are mere platforms to contribute to group interests as he has also made a name for himself.

Mr. Nwosu conclusively says that he no longer wants a part, a role or any more identity with APFFLON.
