The sagacious intelligence and persistent tenacity of the officers of the Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service ably led by the Customs Area Controller, O.A Salefu has paid off with some huge seizures of illegal substances. This has prompted a press conference were the CAC addressed journalists.
The CAC at the event which took place Thursday at the premises of the Command at Ibafon, Apapa said “The inordinate quest by citizens to get rich by any means necessary fuels the menace of smuggling, citizens must understand that smuggling is injurious to our economy and smuggling of hard drugs has even more devastating effect on our health and the economy”.
He revealed that 103 sacks containing 8,240 having a total weight of 3,811 kg parcels of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana) and 23,000 Capsules of 100mg of Tramadol with a duty paid value of the cannabis sativa put at N692,160,000 (Six Hundred and Ninety Two Million, One Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira Only) while the duty paid value of the means of conveyance and two Yamaha outboard engines of 40 horse power each stands at N7,350,000 (Seven Million, Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira only). These give a combined duty paid value of N699,510,000 (Six Hundred And Ninety Nine Million, Five Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira Only) for the entire seizure.

These seizures have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further agency action. The CAC further restated the commitment of his Command in facilitating legitimate trade and aslo in helping to curb the nefarious activities of smugglers.
While receiving the illicit drugs, the Apapa Special Area Commander of the NDLEA Paul Ahom praised the intelligence and cooperation of the officers of the WMC and seeks stronger synergy in order to rid the society of these harmful substances.
