In line with the structure and the policy of the Nigeria Customs Service and the imperative need for continuity in the administration and the operational demands of the Service, a change of baton has occurred at the Apapa Command.

Newly elevated Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Mohammed Auwal handed over the reigns of power to the immediate past Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Oshun Command, Comptroller Jaiyeoba BA.

ACG Mohhamed while giving his valedictory speech indicated that “We worked together as a family of persons who pursue official
responsibilities with a selfless spirit and patriotism targeting the greater good of the country at all times. As a customs command assigned to the number one port in Nigeria, in terms of size and volume of trade, we operated within a period of
challenges and still came out attaining commendable feats. There was a reduced volume of trade occasioned by the electioneering period and other factors. In the face of these, we worked harder together and achieved greater results.
Some outcomes of our collective optimism include collection of over N676 billion as revenue for seven months in 2023; making the highest monthly revenue collection of N136 billion for August 2023”.

“It is also noteworthy that on 3rd August 2023 we achieved the highest daily revenue in the command’s history with the collection of N10.09 billion. These figures and attainments are aftermath of dedication, intelligence, commitment and of course, zero tolerance for duty evasion.I recall the many intervention steps taken through alerts and issuance of demand notices to maximally collect identified shortfall revenues in duty payments after meticulous examinations”.

The new Customs Area Controller of the Command, Babatunde A. Jaiyeoba in his response urged all stakeholders to grant him the kind of cooporation that they had accorded ACG Mohhamed as he promised to operate an open door policy.
