The Tin Can Island Command of the Nigerian Customs Service now has its 20th Customs Area Controller since inception in 1977. Comptroller Dera Nnadi has been redeployed to take over at the Command from Comptroller Adekunle Stephen Oloyede who will move to the Customs headquarters, Abuja.
In his speech as the new CAC, Comptroller Nnadi said that “The dynamism of the industry requires that we join forces as stakeholders to provide solutions to our individual and collective needs. The next phase of this assignment starts this morning as we all commit to lead from the front”.

He stated that “The Command revenue target of over 801 Billion Naira currently stands at 52 per cent, with barely three months to the end of the year 2023 meaning we must collect 48 per cent of the remaining revenue. Coming at a time, the floating exchange rate is affecting importers and exporters, this is a big, but achievable task”.
He commended the outgoing Controller and officers of the Command for the recent seizure of two containers of tramadol and promised to sustain the fight against the importation of illicit and unapproved drugs.

CAC Nnadi also touched on the recent talks between the Nigeria Customs Service and that of the Republic of Benin and said that ” just two days ago the Customs Administrations of Nigeria and Benin signed an agreement to develop frameworks for clearing of Nigeria bound goods in Benin Ports and vice varsa. This is a call for us to improve our business process and increase our efficiency in service delivery in order to be competitive with other ports in the subregion”.
CAC Nnadi also detailed the roles that Journalists have played in helping his career to blossom and pladges to help Maritime Journalists to achieve some of their collective objectives.
He harped on the need for us as a nation to take advantage of the over 350 million population of people along the major parts of West Africa by getting our acts right and promoting regional trade.
On his part, Comptroller Oloyede appeals to all stakeholders to accord the new CAC the kind of cooperation that he enjoyed with them as he wished Comptroller Nnadi very well.
