The flux of hand overs as resultant effects of the promotions and redeployments in the Nigeria Customs Service continued on Monday as Comptroller Dera Nnadi handed over the reigns of authority to Comptroller Timi Bomodi at the Seme Command. The occassion which took place at the conference room of the Command was witnessed by many officers, freight forwarders as well as journalists.

Comptroller Nnadi while presenting his valedictory speech said that “it is usually nostalgic for one to say that he/she is leaving a place, but the truth is that one cannot leave a place where his/her heart really is. I will remain with you here particularly as it is my brother who is taking over from me”. He noted the fact that this is the second time that he was handing over to Comptroller Bomodi having once before handed over to him as the Customs public relations officer at the Apapa Command.

CAC Nnadi detailed that over the period that he held the mantle of leadership at the Command that new strategies were deployed which culminated in the Command generating more than the target revenue given to them. He said that the
revenue target for the Command for the year 2023 is One Billion Nine Hundred and Sixty Six Million Naira (#1,966,000,000.00) Only and that as at hand over, the sum of Two Billion, Eighty Eight Million, Five Hundred and Seventy Eight Thousand and Forty Eight naira (#2,088,578,048.00) has been realised, surpassing the target by One Hundred and Twenty Two Million, Five and Seventy Eight Million Naira (#122,578,000.00) only. This means that the target has been surpassed by 6.32% as at September the 18th.

In anti-smuggling operation, CAC Nnadi noted that they “have seized an equivalent of 16 trailer load of rice with a duty paid value of Three Hundred and Twelve Million Naira (#312,000,000.00) only and an equivalent of 15 tankers of petroleum products with a duty paid value of Seven Hundred and Thirty Eight Million Naira (#738,000,000.00) within the seven months that he served as the CAC there. Aslo seized over the period are:
15,389 of General Merchandise Goods.
Hard Drugs and Narcotics:
594 parcels of Cannabis Sativa
4,900 Tablets 225mg of Tramadol Tamol-X
3,600 Tablets 225mg Tramadol Royal
157 Tablets of Heineken Ecstacy tramadol
864 Packs of expired Cigarette”.

The duty paid value of all the seized items over the period is One Billion, Eight Hundred and Twenty Seven Million Naira (#1,827,000,000.00) only.

On export, the Command processed a total of 146,400 metric tonnes of goods with a free on board value of Sixteen Billion, Five Hundred and Twenty Five Million Naira (#16,525,000,000.00) only. The net value paid is Eight Two Million, Six Hundred and Thirty Thousand, Four Hundred and Ninety Eight naira (#82,630,498.00) only, captured under the 489 single goods declaration category utilised from January to September 2023.

CAC Nnadi aslo said that the 18 Officers and Men of the Command that were involved in the seizures of fake Six million USD ($6,000,000) currency, Fifteen (15) fake international passports and Ten (10) Driver’s license and Donkey skin have been accordingly commended by himself as well as the Comptroller General of Customs.

CAC Nnadi added that renovation works were carried out at the Command as well as the cooperation of the sister agencies that he witnessed over time and the cross border agreement that has been reached with the Benin Republic Customs Service. He thanked the press for the support granted him and urges everyone to extend the same gesture to the incoming CAC Bomodi.

On his part, Comptroller Bomodi went down memory lane to detail his experience as a young man who after serving in the NYSC programme got recruited into the Service with a lot of aspirations in his mind. He said that CAC Nnadi is a man who has come, seen and conquered as far as tackling the challenges imposed by his responsibilities are concerned. He noted that as officers, everyone knows the responsibilities imposed on him/her and that he is going to take everything to heart with an open door policy. The new CAC added that he hopes for more cooperation from all and sundry in other for the Command to acheive more success and subsequently meeting the requirements of higher authority, he also thanked everyone who has been instrumental to the level of success that has been acheived including the CG of Customs.
