The leadership of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has debunked the reports making the rounds in some online media platforms that the association called for the scrapping of the Post Clearance Audit (PCA), a Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
There are reports trending that the ANLCA NECOM during the inauguration of the association’s Special Advisers and other Aids to the National President, Chief Emenike Nwokeoji recently had called for the scrapping of the Post Clearance Audit (PCA) Unit of the NCS. The PCA is a World Customs Organisation (WCO) approved Unit to checkmate defaulters of Customs approved procedures and payment of duties and so a constitutionally recognised unit.
In a swift reaction to debunk the stories, the National Publicity Secretary of ANLCA, Emmanuel Onyeme in a statement issued on Saturday said, the stories are false and misrepresentation of what the ANLCA National President said at the event.
The ANLCA NPS further said that, the new NECOM is working tirelessly to collaborate withe the NCS to alleviate the challenges faced by ANLCA members and will not truncate the cordial relationship between the NCS and the ANLCA leadership.
The statement reads “Disturbed by the various misrepresentations in some online media platforms that the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), NECOM during the inauguration of appointed Special Advisers and other Presidential Aides was quoted as having sought for the scrapping of the Post Clearance Audit ( PCA) of the NCS, the leadership of the ANLCA wants to state thus”:
” That the story is entirely false, misleading and a misrepresentation of what the National President of ANLCA said at the event”.
“That for the avoidance of doubt, the ANLCA National President, Chief Emenike Nwokeoji as a seasoned Customs Broker of many years experience could not have made such an unguarded statement when he knows that the PCA is a Unit established through the instrumentality of the World Customs Organisation and one of the Units in the Service that is crucial in checkmating under payment, valuation and wrong classifications of imports etc”.
” That what the National President of ANLCA said at the event was to caution and advice all ANLCA members to always make correct and genuine declarations to avoid unnecessary alerts or the PCA calling them to question or to make additional payments after goods have exited the ports for months or years”.
” The ANLCA President also seeks the understanding of ANLCA members to work with the NECOM to engage the NCS on collaborations and beneficial engagements that will help to resolve various challenges facing them in the course of carrying out their businesses in the ports”.
“Finally, that the ANLCA leadership wants to reassure the Management and Officers of the NCS that ANLCA hierarchy will work in collaboration with the Service, consult, engage and promote a healthy relationship between both organisations for their mutual benefit and Nigerians in general”.
“We also want to call on our media friends to always be objective and promote mutual relationship, even as they carry out their watch dog roles”.
“We want to assure the NCS, ANLCA members and all stakeholders, that our leadership is determined to make sure every area of conflict or misunderstanding will be solved through dialogue and collaboration for the good and benefit of the Nigerian economy”, the statement concluded.
