The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service under the leadership of Dr. Babatunde Olomu has announced a record ten months revenue generation from the Command. The Customs Area Controller at a press briefing on Monday detailed the performance of the Command.
The revenue generated from January to October shows that the Command received the sum of One Trillion, Eight Hundred and Seventy Five Billion, Three Hundred and Sixty Two Million, Three Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Two Hundred and Fourteen Naira Forty Kobo (₦1,875,362,369,214.40k).
The collection was higher than the Nine hundred and thirty-one billion, one hundred and twenty-three million, nine hundred and ninety-eight thousand, two hundred and thirteen naira, eighty-eight kobo (N931,123,998,213.88) generated in the corresponding period in the year 2023, showing 101% increase over last year’s revenue figure.
Dr. Olomu also disclosed that the command’s October revenue was historic, with N264.455 billion collected in the month alone making it the highest monthly revenue in the command’s history. The Command has in the course of this year broke the record for daily revenue generation with the achievement of a revenue of over Eighteen billion Two Hundred Million Naira (₦18.2B) in the month of October.

Speaking further at the event, the CAC said that “With this revenue trajectory, we are confident that the Command is poised to meet and surpass its 2024 revenue target of N2.2 trillion in the next few weeks”. Furthermore, in line with the Federal Government’s agenda of Ease of Doing Business, the command operates on Saturdays and Sundays to ensure that importers take delivery of their cargoes devoid of any delay”.
On anti- smuggling, the command made a seizure of six containers carrying falsely declared and unwholesome pharmaceutical and controlled products which it handed over to the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control, (NAFDAC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Some of the contents of the seized products are unapproved dosage of tramadol, cough syrup with codeine, injections and more.
Comptroller Olomu added, “However, from January 2024 to date, we have made well over thirty-six (36) seizures of various items ranging from used clothings, frozen poultry product, Tramadol, unregistered pharmaceutical products, and other controlled substances. These seizures are valued at over N1.5 billion”.
He said that the achievement has been a direct result of the interaction of the Command with the Comptroller-General of Customs and also added that inter-agency collaboration has added impetus to their level of performance .
