The slew of promotions and redeployments that swept through the ranks of the officers of the Nigeria Customs Service have seen consequential change of batons in their ramifications. The latest of these handovers happened this Friday at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command of the Service as Comptroller Bomodi, Timi handed the baton over to the new Customs Area Controller of the Command, Tillygyado, MM.

The ceremony took place at the crowded conference centre of the Command with officers, journalists, freight forwarders and other stakeholders present at the event.

The outgoing Customs Area Controller, Bomodi gave his valedictory speech and said that he is grateful to have had the benefit of working with such experienced officers who made his job easier. Comptroller Bomodi noted that “the Command was given a target of sixty two billion, two hundred million naira (#62,200,000,000.00) only as target and that as at the time of handing over that they have generated the sum of thirty six billion, nine hundred and thirty million naira (#36,930,000,000.00) only which represents about 22.44% increase in collected revenue of thirty billion, one hundred and sixty million naira (#30,160,000,000.00) only over the corresponding period of 2022. It also represents about 59.37% of the total expected revenue for 2023”.

He also noted the enhanced commitment to cooperation between sister agencies and stakeholders alike which culminated in the repair of the very bad access road leading into the Command areas, though he decried the low exploitation of the potentials of the Command as he said that less than 10% of the facilities of the Command is put to use.

CAC Bomodi stated that the average time taken to clear goods from the Command is 48 hours and that that is in line with the trade facilitation policy of the Service. He affirmed that stakeholders engagement has been very rewarding and that this will also benefit the incoming head.

The articulate helmsman stated that he was lucky to have worked with “extremely disciplined and professional officers” at the Command and displayed great optimism that the target for the year will be met. CAC Bomodi also asked the officers of the Command to grant the incoming CAC the same kind of cooperation that he enjoyed with them.

There were glowing tributes to the outgoing head with the hopeful optimism that the new CAC will do better. These tributes were paid by officers of the Command and freight forwarders alike as all prayed for both the outgoing and incoming CACs.

CAC Bomodi is moving to the Seme Command to take over from CAC Nnadi, Dera who has received his baton as the CAC at the Tin Can Island Port Command.

The new Customs Area Controller of the KLT Command, Tillygyado, MM (Mrs.) in her speech stated that she is going to deploy emotional intelligence in the discharge of her duty as she had served previously as the deputy comptroller, revenue at the Command. She also added that she will use the SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunity, threat) analysis in dealing with all situations at the Command and expresses the intention to have an open door policy towards all. She thanked everyone for honouring her with their presence at the occassion.
