The crème dè la crème of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) gathered Wednesday at the Maybin Street headquaters of the association to celebrate the 70th birthday of its founder, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam.
It was a canival-like atmosphere as the man affectionately called ‘founder’ by members was feted for his notable contributions to the freight forwarding industry in particular and the maritime sector in general.
NAGAFF bigwigs led by their president, Chief Tochukwu Ezisi were in attendance which also had such names as Fabian Ifeanyichukwu Okafor, the deputy chairman of the board of trustees, Chief Azubuike Ekweozor, Chief Afam Chukwuma, Mr. Simeon Nwonu, Mrs Kate Oghagbon, Prince Eze Uchendu, Emeka Chiedozie, Princess Chi Ezeh, the celebrant’s beautiful wife and a host of other dignitaries.

The day was not that of speeches, but the president, Chief Ezisi remarkably noted that “We are celebrating a man who if his name is not mentioned in any freight forwarding discussion in Nigeria, one has not started the discussion. He is such a great philanthropist that people still fall back to and he is still helping people to solve their problems, myself inclusive. Though his birthday was on the 15th of September, we have chosen to celebrate him today as he is such a great man to be celebrated”.

Chief (Dr.) Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam was born into the family of Ozo Aniebonam Nwauweke of Umuawulu town in Awka South local Government Area. He started his life from the village circle having gone through primary school to secondary and to the University level. He attended Saint Joseph Catholic primary school, Umuawulu town, Holy Cross Secondary School, Umuawulu town and the University of Lagos where he studied Transport and Logistics. Dr. Aniebonam also had a stint with the Nigeria Customs Service.

Aside from founding NAGAFF, he aslo founded the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), a party that now has a sitting governor, senators, members of the house of representatives, members of the state houses of assembly, local government chairmen and councilors in different parts of the country. He is also a businessman of great repute.
Music at the event was supplied by disc jockey ‘Pumping’ and the Ogene NAGAFF cultural group aside other forms of entertainment provided to make the occasion a memorable. Those who were at the occasion had a lot to eat and drink and the event went into the late evening.
