A group known as Concerned NNPP/NAGAFF/Kwankwasiyya Peace Committee (CNNNAKWAPCO) has commended the verdict of the Nigerian Supreme Court Panel in charge of electoral matters in declaring His Excellency, Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf the substantive and duly elected Governor of Kano State. The Peace Committee in an exclusive chat with greatalternativenetwork.com noted that it was crystal clear that NNPP won the governorship election which held on the 25th of March 2023 rather convincingly, but which the Election Tribunal and the Appeal Court had nullified after deducting a total of 165,616 votes from the figures credited to Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Secretary of the group, Dr Arthur Igwilo noted that with this verdict, justice has not only been done on the matter by the Supreme Court, but is also seen to have been served. The Peace Committee felicitates Governor Kabir Abba Yusuf, the People of Kano State and the NNPP in general.
It is recalled that it was a joyous moment for the party members when on Friday the 12th of January, the Supreme Court Panel responsible for electoral matters nullified the decisions of the Appeal Court and the Governorship Election Tribunal which hitherto declared Mr. Haruna Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner, sighting irregularities during voting which they said caused over voting to a total of 165,616 votes. Thus, these votes were subsequently deducted from the total figures credited to Kabir Abba Yusuf and cosequently making him to fall short of the winning mark as Gawuna was declared the winner by the initial verdicts.
Dr. Igwilo noted that if our democracy is to grow, the judiciary has the duty to continue to uphold the rule of law and especially the wishes of the majority of the people as usually expressed at the ballots not minding the intrigues and mischief in most cases adopted by some politicians.
The (CNNNAKWAPCO) secretary added that the victory of NNPP in Kano State will facilitate the peace and reconciliation processes being championed by the Committee, as the Party prepares for subsequent governorship elections coming up in other states and of course the 2027 general elections.
