The Customs Area Controller of the Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Dera Nnadi Tuesday afternoon held a press briefing where a number of plans and projections were revealed.

CAC Nnadi said that the Command started the year 2023 by embracing trade recovery guidelines for the restoration and maintenance of operational activities in conformity with the Service mandates of trade facilitation, consistent risk management application, steady revenue generation and additionally recommend plans and implement strategies that can enhance and sustain its ability to mitigate the threats of non-compliance. He also revealed that they have so much acted to mitigate the effects of insecurity over time.

Comptroller Nnadi disclosed that the management of the Nigerian Customs Service has raised the Command’s target by over 25 per cent with a projected revenue target of One trillion, One Hundred and Thirty Billion, Seven Hundred and Sixty Eiight Million, Fifty One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty One naira, Twenty Nine Kobo (N1,130,768,051,881.29k).

The figure represents a rise from the revenue target for the year, 2023, which stood at Eight Hundred and One Billion, One Hundred and Forty Two Million, Two Hundred and Ninety Seven Thousand, Four Hundred and Seven naira, Sixty Six kobo (N801, 142,297,407.66k).

CAC Nnadi also revealed that the Command generated a total of Seven Hundred and Sixteen Billion, Four Hundred and Seventy Nine Million, Seven Thousand, Five Hundred and Seventy Six naira (716,479,007,576.00k) only which represents 89% of the target for the year 2023.

He also revealed that in 2023, the Command handled a total of 623,694.7 metric tonnes of export cargoes and that that represents 85% increase in tonnage against the figure of 2022.

CAC Nnadi added that in the outgone year, the Command experimented on the 24 hour service delivery and that it included the process of scanning cargoes as a way of expediting the goods clearance processes and improvement in efficiency. He advised that as they intend to have a 24/7 hour service delivery, that weekends should seize to be meant for parties as the country should operate as a modern economy that runs round the clock.

CAC Nnadi while speaking stated that the new target is achievable with diligent service of officers and through efficient stakeholders engagement. He declared that the year 2024 is a year of the stakeholders at the Command as he reiterated the importance of Freight Forwarders in the revenue generation processes for the Customs.

He added that the 2024 target is geared towards encouraging exports in order to pull in the badly needed foreign exchange for the building of the country’s economy. Comptroller Nnadi heartily appeals to all stakeholders and including the media to help in realising the set target and to continue to facilitate trade thereby helping Nigeria to get closer to her economic dreams.
